Hello and Happy Thursday!
We’re keeping it light today, friends. Maybe you had a short week for the 4th of July holiday and things are a bit hectic coming back. Or maybe you're still off work and looking for some less serious content to consume at the lake.
In either case, this week the WTWT team is channeling their inner Maria Von Trapp and sharing some of the things (both work-y and not work-y) that we’ve been enjoying this summer!
To celebrating work and play,
Jill
What We're Snacking On
A cold dish for hot days. High temps have you avoiding your oven? This cold peanut noodle salad tastes great, comes together quickly, and makes great straight-from-the-fridge leftovers. It’s a summertime staple.
A snack and a story. If you haven't tried Dot's Honey Mustard Pretzels, you're seriously missing out. They're extremely dangerous to have in the house, so I personally limit them to roadtrips. I recently enjoyed streaming this podcast episode with Dot's founder Dorothy Henke while happily snacking on my way to the cabin.
Regional dairy deep dive. We had no idea Vermont was so intense about soft serve sorry, creemee, until WTWT’er (and VT local) Emily gave us the rundown on her state’s snack of the summer.
What We're Listening To
Summer (Taylor's Version). I've dedicated a truly embarrassing number of hours to battling Ticketmaster for Eras Tour tickets this summer. While I ultimately lost that battle, a genuine miracle occurred and I ended up with tickets to night two of Taylor's Minneapolis residency. Top five life moment, without question.
Needless to say, this concert setlist has been my soundtrack for the last 8+ weeks. If you're still battling for tickets, don't hesitate to message me. I've learned every trick in the book and am happy to share!
Wellness culture, debunked. From Goop, to 10,000 steps a day, to fad diets, to the BMI and beyond, Maintenance Phase hosts Aubrey Gordon and Michael Hobbes bring research chops, humor, and loads of compassion to re-visiting some of the biggest health and wellness fads of yesterday and today.
Caregiving - It's Not Just For Parents. The brilliant Tara Elwell Helling recently joined me for an episode of the Want To Work There podcast focused on how companies can better support caregivers of all kinds. Tune in to learn more about the Sandwich Generation and how you can best support their needs.
What We're Learning
Global complexity, simplified. Working with or leading an international team? Erin Meyer’s book The Culture Map helps untangle how diversity of cultural norms and communications expectations can complicate the day-to-day, with tips and tools to keep things smooth.
Sleep, glorious sleep. What came as a freebie add-on when one of our teammates bought a new alarm clock, Loftie’s Mysteries of Sleep has proven a fascinating - and gorgeously illustrated - exploration of all things dreamland.
What’s the secret to good documentation? Prioritizing it! Jen Bergen just led her most recent cohort session for her process and documentation session yesterday, but lucky for us she has another one coming up on August 9th. I've personally registered and hope to see you there!
A Couple Want To Work There Favs
Training for the Modern Manager. Did you know we have a signature management training program that is designed specifically for startups and scale-ups? The overwhelmingly positive reviews from participants lately have me even more fired up to get this program into more organizations! Learn more here or respond to this email and I'll send you the program overview.
No HR professional is an island. If you’re in the workplace improvement trenches, you know how much you need a trust-worthy community to learn from and lean on. Lucky for you, I’ve got a round up my favorite free-to-join HR Communities right here. A bonus shoutout to Safe Safe, a new paid community that has already been worth the investment I made to join.
Putting the human in human resources. One of my favorite podcast guest discussions was with NĹŤn Wels, founder of the The Feely Human Collective. We dove in on the role of - and importance of - empathy in the workplace.
